Aurora tales

In March this year I spent a whole month in Senja (an island a couple of hundred kilometers above the arctic circle) as a volunteer.
On the one hand I used this month to get to know myself better, on the other hand I wanted to experience what it was like to live in such 'extreme' conditions.

What I find to be the most intriguing characteristic of those brave enough to live on the island, is how well they deal with the capriciousness of nature.

Snow, wind, extreme colds, months of darkness... It's all part of their daily life. 

So go ahead and think of Norway as a country that has a lot of untouched nature, but maybe it's even better to look at Norway as an example of how well mankind and nature can go hand in hand.

In my photos I tried to capture this harmony between both sides by including some signs of human presence in landscapes that are so wild and solemn at the same time that one often wonders why people would decide to try and live there in the first place.

Last but not least I'd like to thank Gunnar and Kristin for being such wonderful hosts and helping me to find my way around the island.
